Random Movie Marathon Thoughts

Hi Internet People,

I have an idea for a sort of random movie marathon. Alright if you were a teenage girl in the early 2000’s you might remember a time when Amanda Bynes was everywhere. She was on Nickelodeon for All That and her self named show, The Amanda Show, then shifted to Fox Family to be in What I Like About You. Well, I think it was Fox Family then and not ABC Family. That channel has a different name like every other year. While she was doing all of that she starred in a bunch of random sort of rom com movies and I have the random desire to watch them all.

When I was in high school I was obsessed with What a Girl Wants. Mostly because it takes place in London and Colin Firth is in it. So in the movie Bynes plays a girl who after she turns 17 decides to find her father, who happens to be a Lord in London. Her mom met him when they were in their teens and though they got married, she ran away when she thought he didn’t want her in his life anymore. It turns out he never knew that the woman he loved was pregnant and when Bynes appears he is astonished. The two of them start building a relationship, but her new almost stepsister and stepmother keep trying to destroy it. Bynes also has a super cute musician love interest, who seemed like the perfect guy to me.

I actually just watched that movie at work so the marathon has sort of already started. There are two more Bynes movies I really want to see that I haven’t in ages. The first is She’s the Man. When I was graduating from high school I watched it at a random sleepover a bunch of girls I knew decided to throw. The movie is a remake of Twelfth Night with Bynes as Viola, pretending to be her own brother so that she can play soccer at an all boys school. Channing Tatum is in it, and he is her love interest, so that’s fun. Also it’s the movie that taught you two uses for tampons.

The other movie is Sydney White, which is totally just Snow White, but with Amanda Bynes playing a girl in college who winds up living in a really nerdy frat house with 7 guys. She has to deal with her step siblings who are trying to ruin her life. It actually reminds me a lot of The House Bunny, which doesn’t have Amanda Bynes in it, but is a really funny watch. I might also throw in Easy A because she plays the villain in that one and everyone is hilarious in that movie.

Do you guys remember any of these movies or is it just me? If you do remember them you should totally comment or tweet me, @kleffnotes, so we can share in the Amanda Bynes nostalgia. I’m also going to film videos today for my YouTube channel and do some fun stuff, since it’s my day off, woo! There are also cool articles to find on The Nerdy Girl Express.

Big News and Video Updates

Hi Internet People,

This week I’m going to be filming a bunch of YouTube videos. I’m really excited because one of them is a super big deal that I’ve been teasing since December. I have four videos planned, but I don’t think I will post them all this week. I will definitely have at least two for you guys, one of which is going to be the super awesome one full of cool stuff.

Yes, cool stuff, and not just for me. I finally got all my stuff for the big giveaway I wanted to do this month. I had a bunch of Hot Cash and found some awesome Funko stuff to fill out the rest of my prize package. It’s a really good batch of prizes if I do say so myself, there are going to be four full sized Funko Pops, two pins, and five other Funko things. Oh and I’m adding a couple bonus things too, but those will be a surprise. I’m going to make a video revealing everything and announcing how to enter. I’m really looking forward to it.

I do need to research raffle sites or how I want to draw the winner. I want to let people enter who don’t have Twitter or YouTube channels, but we shall see what I can figure out. Maybe I’ll just do a code word you have to tell me. Let me know what you all think and if you have suggestions about how to do the drawing you can tweet at me, @kleffnotes, or comment below.

The other videos are going to be about shows and Netflix. I have an idea for themed videos that I think will be fun. I’m going to probably pull down some videos so that I have a more themed channel. No worries, it’ll just be singing ones that I’m pretty sure most people who wanted to see them have. I can always do some singing Periscopes if you guys really want to hear more songs. Before I pull the videos if you want to check them out then head on over to my channel and give them a watch/listen. You can also find some amazing articles over on The Nerdy Girl Express.

There’s an American Psycho Musical!

Hi Internet People,

I totally just found out that there’s an American Psycho musical and I really want to go see it. I haven’t been to see a musical in ages, okay, not ages, just a couple years. I saw Avenue Q with some friends and before that I saw Wicked, The Lion King, and then some random little musicals that were performed by local groups.

I have a bunch of musicals that I want to see still, but the two on the top of the list right now are Hamilton and American Psycho. The one about the crazy murderer is the one I want to see first, just in case you were curious. Apparently it sold out when it was performed in London and just recently announced that it was coming to Broadway. I don’t live that close to New York, but seriously I want to just pack up and go so that I can see the amazingness that I feel an American Psycho musical will be.

American Psycho is one of the movies that I randomly watch just because. Something about crazy Christian Bale is just so fun to watch, and just like Fight Club Jared Leto gets beat to heck. That isn’t something I actively look for, but somehow two of my favorite movies just involve Leto getting super messed up. Bale’s character, Patrick Bateman, is obsessed with music so turning it into a musical makes sense. I honestly haven’t researched it, I need to look up the music because I bet that YouTube has at least some clips I can listen to, but I’m hoping that some of the music from the movie shows up in it. I’ve read the book too, it’s a pretty hefty read, and is actually way more intense than the movie. Some super gross stuff happens with a rat that is just super disgusting to read. There are also some way more intense deaths that were altered ever so slightly for the movie because if they’d been kept as is it totally would have gotten an NC-17 instead of an R rating.

If you’ve seen the musical or know anything about it I would love more info. I’m going to do some researching this week because I would love to go see it in New York. You can comment below or tweet at me, @kleffnotes. I’m going to do some videos this week, one about Netflix original shows, but until that’s up you can check out my other videos on my kleffnotes YouTube channel. You should also totally check out The Nerdy Girl Express. We just started a t-shirt fundraiser, the shirts are really cool.

I Know It’s Sunday and I’m Failing You

Hi Internet People,

I know today is Sunday and that means that I should be posting Blogging with Benny pics and telling you about cool stuff I’ve been doing with him this week, but I just got so busy that he and I didn’t get to do anything together. Okay, mostly because I was planning on doing a Saturday photo shoot and I finally had a chance to see Star Wars and jumped on it. Benny understood, I’ve been waiting weeks to see this movie and he was totally fine with the lack of photos so I hope you guys understand too.

Since I saw Star Wars yesterday I really need to talk about it so the rest of this article is all about my Star Wars feels *ALL THE SPOILERS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN SO IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE AND DON’T WANT THINGS RUINED TURN BACK NOW* Oh my gosh a stormtrooper that is a real character! The fact that the start of the movie was focused on a stormtrooper breaking away from what he has been trained to do since birth was amazing to me. It just astonished me that a stormtrooper was a real person and not just a blaster toting background person.

*HEY THOSE WERE MINOR SPOILERS NOW HERE COME THE BIG ONES WITH CHARACTER NAMES AND STUFF* I loved Poe and his connection with Finn right from the beginning was so great to watch, I wanted more of them together, so here’s hoping in the next movies we get some really good Finn and Poe time. I also really liked BB-8. I have this thing with sci-fi movies where I frequently like the robots more than the people. I even took a class called History of the Future that focused on studying science fiction movies and books over time and I liked the robots more than the people in everything we watched and read. I was afraid that with all the BB-8 hype that he would be a let down, but he was like a baby R2-D2, which was so adorable.

I went into the movie thinking that I would come out loving Kylo Ren because I love Darth Vader. Something about that evil, force choking, hand chopping dude I like. I think it’s his power, because dude he controls a lot of stuff in the original movies. Well, I’m sorry, but while very attractive, Kylo Ren was so whiny. He destroyed so much expensive stuff because he was throwing a temper tantrum. Even stormtroopers avoided walking near him when he was lightsaber flailing. I have decided that Rey was my favorite character. Not only did she hold her own in a a bunch of intense fights, but she flew the Millennium Falcon like a boss without any training. Seriously she is amazing! She saved Finn, she scarred up Kylo, she has intense force powers, and she’s going to train with Luke Skywalker. Yes!!!! I though really want to know who her parents are or at least how she’s connected to the Skywalker bloodline, because I’m very sure that she is.

Alright last few things. I was so happy to see Leia, Han, and Chewie actually doing stuff in the movie. I was afraid that they were just little cameos, but they were actually doing important things. *NOW GIANT SPOILER* I’m so upset about Han! That’s another reason I’m super not okay with Kylo. I loved Han and he was just gone! His own child killed him on a bridge thingy. I was super freaked out the entire time they were talking because the bridge looked just like when Darth Vader cut off Luke’s hand so I was expecting something awful to happen and I was still caught off guard.

If you can’t tell I loved the movie and I can’t wait for the next one. I’m definitely going to go back and do Star Wars rewatches because I need more Star Wars in my life. If you want to share your Star Wars thoughts you can comment below or tweet at me, @kleffnotes. If you want to see more stuff by me you can find me on my YouTube channel and over on The Nerdy Girl Express.

Dang Season Three of Wentworth is Nuts!

Hi Internet People,

I just started the third season of Wentworth and holy doodle, it’s already nuts. Okay I’m going to try really hard not to spoil anything, but I’m hoping if I hint at the craziness of this season that you will start watching this super intense show. First off all the ladies are back at Wentworth, even one character who was initially out on parole, so we’ve got the whole gang back together again. Well, except for Franky’s former girlfriend, but she makes a little cameo at least.

Bea did some serious stuff at the end of season two and because of that the women of the prison see her as the new and rightful leader. Franky isn’t coping with this very well, especially after something happens between her and Boomer. It’s some pretty intense stuff because Booms attacked someone she felt had wronged her, even though Bea specifically told her not to. Even when she’s in solitary Bea is able to get all of H Block, with Maxine as her second in command, to do something crazy out in the yard. There’s a lot of destruction and a pretty big fire. Ferguson, the governor who was introduced in season two, is being directly challenged by Bea, there was a pretty big confrontation in the yard after the big scene. I’ve only watched three episodes, but those are the super big highlights.

Besides all the craziness I’m loving a super random thing about this season, Bea’s new hair. I’ve always loved her hair. It’s so big and the color is such an intense red. I honestly wish I could pull of her hair myself, but I know I totally couldn’t. Well this season Bea has shaved a portion of her head and when things get serious she pulls up her hair into a ponytail that shows of her new shaved sides. I’ve been calling it warrior hair because it kind of reminds me of a mohawk and just looks super cool. I wish I could do that too, but my hair isn’t thick enough to do shaved sides.

I know this has been a bit vague, but seriously I think you should check out the show and you’ll hate me if I spoil the craziness for  you. When, okay if, you start watching or have already watched Wentworth I’d love to hear your thoughts. You can comment below or tweet at me, @kleffnotes.

Grace and Frankie are Adorable

Hi Internet People,

Instead of sleeping these past two days I’ve been watching a bunch of shows and movies into the wee hours of the morning. I just finished the Netflix Original Series, Grace and Frankie, and it was so good. I’m planning on doing a video about Netflix Originals that people should check out that haven’t gotten as much buzz, but I wanted to talk about Grace and Frankie here too.

The series is all about two married couples and after about 40 years of marriage the husbands come out as gay lovers, who have been cheating on their now 70 year old wives for 20 years. The husbands are played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston. In case you don’t remember who these men are Sheen is Charlie Sheen’s father and was the president in The West Wing. Oh and also an Uncle Ben in a Spiderman movie, the newish one with the Garfield kid. Sam Waterston was the DA in Law and Order for I think almost forever. Honestly I see him and immediately think Dun Dun, you know that sound. Sheen’s wife in the show is Jane Fonda, who has been in so many things it’s hard to narrow it down, The Butler was one of the most recent things. Lily Tomlin plays Sam Waterston’s wife, Frankie, and she is probably my favorite part of the entire show. Again she’s been in a ton of stuff, but when I hear her voice I immediately remember her as Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus.

Grace, Fonda’s character, winds up moving into the beach house that the couples had shared for years, and finds that Frankie is already there. The two wind up living together, once their husbands, who happen to be divorce lawyers, have cancelled their credit cards and the beach house is now their only option. We get to see Grace and Frankie dealing with going from married to divorced women, who never expected to be divorced, and their ex-husbands, Sol and Robert, building an actual relationship, instead of an affair. Besides the main couples we get to see their children also dealing with learning that their lives have completely changed.

The show is frequently hilarious with ridiculous things happening like getting froyo high, organic yam lubricant, a baby born in a pair of yoga pants, and online dating. While funny things happen there are also some touching moments between all of the characters. Frankie and Grace both want to help each other make it through this new stage in their lives. They are adorable together. Sol and Robert also both start dealing with new aspects of being together that they had never dealt with before, like jealousy and just daily irritations. Their kids are wonderful, especially Brianna, who runs Grace’s cosmetics company. She has a super cute dog named Spit. If you like it let me know in the comments or on Twitter, @kleffnotes.

If you haven’t checked out the show you should definitely give it a watch. The episodes are pretty short and I really enjoyed it. I posted a new YouTube video yesterday all about my awkward baby face that you can see over on my YouTube channel. You can also check out some really cool articles over on The Nerdy Girl Express.

Star Wars Finally!

Hi Internet People,

I found out that I finally get to see the new Star Wars movie this weekend. I’m so excited!! I think I’m like the last person in all of planet Earth to see it, except for my other family members, but finally I get to go. I have Saturday off and my brother doesn’t have to work so with us both free we can finally go see it. This little theater nearish us is showing it for super cheap so not only do I get to see the movie it won’t cost as much as going to our big theater.

I need to get supplies for the movie first though, primarily I need a new Star Wars shirt. I had a few when I was in high school and college, but I wore them so much that they got kind of grungy and I wound up having to get rid of them. I had a cool Yoda one and another that had the poster for Empire Strikes Back on it. I would be lying if I said I was a super fan, but I do really enjoy the Star Wars movies, well the original trilogy. I like Darth Maul and some other stuff from the newer three, but I always loved Darth Vader the most. I had his lightsaber and even bought a cheesy plastic Vader mask that I really just let decorate my wall.

I had a friend who I used to lightsaber fight with actually. We beat the crap out of each other with the lightup plastic ones. I used to get my knuckles super messed up from when we hit each other too low on the saber. We played Star Wars Monopoly and chatted about random Star Wars stuff. I really need to rewatch the original three, either before or after I go to the movie on Saturday. I’m so excited, I know I said that already, but seriously super pumped.

Not only will I finally get to see the movie, but I’ll also get to read some articles that got posted on The Nerdy Girl Express that I haven’t been able to read because I have been trying my best to avoid spoilers. It’s actually super hard to do, though I’ve done pretty well I think. So on Saturday I’ll finally get to see the movie I’ve been waiting weeks to see. I’ll definitely blather on all about it afterward so be prepared.

I also posted a new YouTube video on my kleffnotes channel that you should totally check out. It’s all about awkward things that happen to me because people always think I’m way younger than I actually am. If you like embarrassing Katherine stories you definitely need to watch it. Let me know what you think in the comments or over on Twitter, @kleffnotes.

Brain Truffles from my iZombie Kitchen

Hi Internet People,

Last night I whipped up some brain truffles for iZombie night, here’s pic of the finished recipe for you:

_20160112_052641

Now if you want to make your own truffles here are the ingredients you’ll need.

One bag of golden Oreos, two 12 ounce bags of white chocolate chips, an 8 ounce package of cream cheese, and red food coloring.

IMG_20160112_025402534

Now most people use a food processor to make these, but I was working on these pretty late at night and didn’t want to wake up my entire house so I put the Oreos in two different ziplock baggies and rolled over them with a rolling pin until they were mashed pretty well.

IMG_20160112_025429994 IMG_20160112_025439958

After I mashed them up I dumped both bags into a medium sized bowl and added the cream cheese, which I let sit until it was room temperature.

IMG_20160112_031911046 IMG_20160112_032157250

Then I mushed it all together with my hands until it looked like a brown blob.

IMG_20160112_032452417

I then put on some disposable gloves and added red food coloring, about five drops, and then I mashed it back up until it turned pink all over.

IMG_20160112_032710797

Since I didn’t use a food processor there were some yellow cookie bits still in there, but it’s okay, it just adds character. Next you need to take the pink cookie blob and portion it out into balls. No lie, I totally screwed up this part of the recipe. I was supposed to get like 40 balls and wound up with about 12. I’m really good at portion sizes guys.

IMG_20160112_042803260

Now you need to put all your brainy balls into the fridge to cool, that should take about a half hour. I messed up a few by not waiting for the balls to cool, please learn from my mistakes and cool first.

I then set up a double boiler on the stove. I’ve used that system before, but if you haven’t you just need to fill a pot with water and put a metal or glass bowl in it/on top of it. Make sure the water just touches the bottom of the bowl. Then fill the bowl with the white chocolate chips and turn the burner on high. The chips will start to melt pretty quickly after that.

IMG_20160112_031914922 IMG_20160112_034114252

Once the chocolate is melted you can add in your red food coloring, three or four drops will do. Once the chocolate is a nice pink, reduce your heat so you don’t get burned. Now okay I totally messed this part up, but my mom and brother apparently knew what I did wrong so you guys won’t have to deal with what I did. Once you have your chilled brain balls, put a toothpick in them. Then dip the ball, while holding the toothpick, into the chocolate.

I totally didn’t do that, I just put my balls into the chocolate and attempted to fish them out with a fork, because that’s what my recipe said to do. It was a disaster! I almost burned myself like three times, ruined three of the balls, and had to try and remelt the chocolate to finish the last ball, which pretty much didn’t work. So while I got three balls that turned out pretty, the other ones I made are huge and super messy.

IMG_20160112_044127916

My pretty ones that you got to see on Twitter and earlier in this post I decorated by dipping a toothpick in a little bowl with red food coloring in it and drawing little lines. Here’s the outside and inside of the nice ones.

_20160112_052641 IMG_20160112_054839470

The inside looks a bit like salami or pepperoni, but I promise they taste delicious. If you make these I’d love to see them so you can always tweet me pics, @kleffnotes, or leave one in the comments. I posted an iZombie video on my YouTube channel that you can check out. You can also find some other fun videos over there. There are also some amazing articles over on The Nerdy Girl Express.

It’s iZombie and Embarrassing Story Day!

Hi Internet People,

Sorry, I’m super excited because new episodes of iZombie start back up tonight. I know I already freaked out about it on here yesterday so I don’t want to repeat myself too much. I did film a new YouTube video all about what I hope to see and am afraid of seeing in the rest of season two. Honestly I would link it in here, but I haven’t uploaded it yet. I’m writing this post earlier than normal. By the time this goes up though the video will be up for you to watch on my kleffnotes YouTube channel.

Now that I’ve freaked out at you for the second day in a row how about I share an embarrassing story with you to make up for the similar postings. Now I’ve wracked my brain to think of something and I have one that is a plethora of embarrassing.

When I was in 8th grade a class I was in went to the Renaissance Fair that takes place every October about three hours from where I live. I was super excited to go and decided to dress my best, which at the time meant wearing the most emo clothes I could find. I wore a black shirt that said “You have kind eyes, the kind I’d like to poke out” which I layered over a red and black striped shirt with a hood. I then wore my black and red Chucks, which is the only item in this list I still own, and a necklace that literally looked like a toilet chain. I also wore rubber spiky earrings. So that entire outfit definitely screamed Renaissance Fair right? Yeah, looking back I know that I looked like a super awkward preteen trying to look cool. So during the day I was dedicated to buying fake nose rings, which I did actually buy and then wore for the rest of the day. They were really cheap fake nose rings so they definitely didn’t look even remotely real. So see I looked ridiculous the entire day, though I thought I looked super cool, but that isn’t it.

A group of us went to a glass blowing area and the guy who was running the store was really attractive. All the girls I was with kept giggling and staring at him around the display cases. Well at some point the girls started saying we needed to tell him how cute he was and no idea why, but they decided I would be the perfect person to tell him. So I walk up to this guy and just randomly blurt out, “We think you’re really cute” and then we all ran away. Yep, ran away from the store and refused to go back. Totally the most slick thing ever.

So yep, I was a super awkward kid when I was younger, especially when I thought I was being cool. Want to share your own stories or your iZombie excitement? You can comment below or tweet at me, @kleffnotes. You can also check out my YouTube channel and find some super cool articles over on The Nerdy Girl Express.
